What are we offering?

A year-long educational programme with the majority of student’s time spent in a work placement with support from a work coach, they will also attend Functional Skills in Maths and English one day a week.

Who does this programme suit?

This programme is intended for young people where mainstream education is not an option as they would struggle and not progress well. A Supported Internships programme has no educational requirements and suits students who achieve better when learning through practical experience.

Personalised support:

From referral stage to the programme starting, we will work with the young person and family/carers to provide a high quality, holistic, person centred programme. Our work coaches have a wealth of skills and knowledge in supported employment and will work with the student and employer to develop a successful work placement, with the in-work support fading as the student gains confidence and skills in their roles. The work coach will be on hand to support with any new changes in support needs throughout the year.

Outcome of Supported Internship:

The goal is for the student to attain paid work either during or at the end of the programme if the fit is right. If this does not happen, other routes will be looked at for example employment with other companies, supported apprenticeships, college courses etc... There will be an identified progression route at the end of the programme.

Eligibility criteria:

To be able to apply for this programme the young person needs to be between 16- 24 with an EHCP in place. We support young people with learning disabilities and autism, with high needs funding identified or in place at previous institutions attended. Our programme is based in Medway and Swale and students need to live in these areas to be able to access this programme. Importantly, the young person needs to want to work. They will be working with a local employer and for the programme to be successful they will need to commit to get to work on time, be willing and able to follow instruction and want to participate
