Aspire runs a study programme for 16-18year olds. The students on the course will work towards over 32weeks:
Level 1 Extended Certificate in Vocational Skills
Improvement of Maths and English
Work Experience at one of the centre’s partners
Level 2 City and Guilds Food Safety and Hygiene in Catering
Emergency First Aid at Work
Mentoring and Career Direction
Level 1 Extended Certificate in Vocational Studies (CORE) – Portfolio-based assessment
Developing an understanding of basic building maintenance, painting and decorating skills and a basic level of health and safety that underpins this work.
Students will address their progression and discover the employment and training options that follow the completion of the Aspire Study Programme.
Each student will also sit their CSCS card training and examination that is required for any form of employment within the construction sector.
Business and Administration:
Training in the fundamentals of office and administration.
Development of professional communication both written, spoken and online.
Work-based learning at the Glo Centre/partner companies.
Children and Community Work:
Training in understanding the foundation of child development and communication skills.
Direct participation with children through a range of methods, including IT, creative activities and play.
locally based placement work with onsite groups to support their work with this knowledge.
Direct learning in Youth Work within the youth delivery into local communities through Pipeline Youth Initiative.
Training as a youth worker through joining locally based teams leading onto leading sessions
Functional Skills Maths (CORE) – Assessment through online testing. The course covers Numeracy, Fractions, Decimals, Percentages, Shapes and Probability. The work will be delivered through class-based activities and interactive workshops.
Functional Skills English (CORE) – Assessment through online Testing and External Moderation. The course covers Reading Writing and Speaking through class-based activities.
Level 2 City and Guilds Food Safety and Hygiene in Catering (CORE) – Students will achieve hands-on practical experience in a kitchen putting into practice taught sessions and specialist workshops. Assessment through Online Testing and computer-based modules.
Emergency First Aid at Work (CORE) - Students will undertake a one-day course held on site to gain their qualification. Students undertake practical activities and engaging with presentation-led learning. Assessment through practical assessment.
Free Bus Pass - Students will receive a free bus pass if they or a parent/carer receives any benefits.
Mentoring and Career Direction – Each student will be allocated a mentor who will discuss course expectations and any difficulties they may be experiencing in college or outside. Students will develop their own understanding of progression and employability options.
